Philip Marshall was born in Wellington and graduated with a degree in English from Victoria University. He worked as a publications editor for a government department in New Zealand for 25 years. He now lives in Nagasaki, Japan, and teaches English conversation - see his web site Chat-Eikaiwa.

He founded RiverStone Books in 2000.
